Aquasax is part of an ongoing investigation into the saxophone as an expandable instrument. Combining instrument building, site-specific acoustics, improvisation, and embodied performance, the project explores how architecture, resonance, and material design become compositional partners in musical practice.
Aquasax was developed with Markus Krispel for a 2021 performance within the acoustic environment of Buffalo Bayou Cistern a huge underwater reservoir, on the occasion of a specially commissioned work to accompany Time No Longer by Anri Sala. The original work of Time No Longer was a CGI film generated from a recording performed by myself and arranged with the help of Olivier Goinard and Sala.
